GS Group has signed a localisation contract for set-top boxes
GS Group has signed a contract with Technological Systems and Service for the production of set-top boxes. The devices are designed to operate on the network of one of the largest telecommunication companies in Russia. For the client, this is the first successful example of transferring set-top box production from China to Russia.
The set-top boxes are manufactured by Digital Television Systems, a research and manufacturing association. DTS has years of experience in the production of aerial, satellite, and IP boxes, as well as hybrid models. As part of an import-replacement programme, Technological Systems and Service chose DTS as its contracted producer for its boxes for clients in Russia and the CIS.
“Russian companies have accumulated strong skills in producing highly complex devices which often outstrip their counterparts from southeast Asia in terms of their technical and operational characteristics. The skills and capacities housed in the businesses of the Technopolis innovation cluster allow us to provide a whole range of services relating to the development and large-scale production of electronics of any level of complexity – from packaging integral microcircuits to packaging the end product. We are pleased that Russian products are experiencing increasing demand on the market and are prepared to offer our production capabilities and experience to any company looking for localisation and import-replacement opportunities,” noted the head of production development at GS Group, Fedor Boyarkov.
“It was important for us to maintain the quality of the products in comparison with those produced in one of the largest plants in China, ideally without increasing the overall costs. With DTS, we found a lot of interest in the project and plenty of qualified personnel, who worked with our specialists to quickly get to grips with the design documentation, organise the production of a test batch, and prepare for mass production. An additional bonus for us was the opportunity to manufacture packaging within Technopolis GS. We hope that the result of our collaboration will be appreciated by our clients,” added Olga Petrakova, General Director of Technological Systems and Service LLC.
Production at DTS is heavily automated and highly productive, geared towards serial production. There are currently 5 automated surface-mount manufacturing lines with a combined capacity of over 1 million components per hour. Besides this, there are 6 manual installation lines for pluggable components, and 6 conveyer lines for final assembly.
